2018-2019 Reflections Contest is Open!
Stillwater PTSA invites your student to participate in The Reflections program, a National PTA and Washington State PTA cultural arts competition.
This year students are asked to interpret this year’s theme “Heroes Around Me”. Young artists may submit an original work of art in the following areas:
- Literature: works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, prose, drama, short stories and lyrics.
- Music Composition: original musical composition, with or without words.
- Photography: color or black and white, including techniques: photo-gram, retouched, montage, sandwich and multiple exposure.
- Visual Arts: drawing, painting in tempera, oil, acrylic, watercolor & t-shirt paints, computer generated art, two-dimensional collage, three-dimensional collage, printmaking, needlework & leather tooling.
- Film/Video: original works, with or without sound, of animation, narrative, documentary, experimental or music video/film.
- Choreography/Dance: originally choreographed dance composition.
Entries are judged on creative ability and interpretation of the theme. There is a section on the official entry form that asks for the artist statement, that’s where students will describe how they interpreted the theme, this is a large part of the judging.
Entries are first judged at the local level and selected works are chosen to represent the PTA at each subsequent level.
For official rules and to download an entry form, please visit: https://www.wastatepta.org/events-programs/reflections/ or contact reflections@stillwaterptsa.org. Please review the official rules BEFORE your student starts to work on their piece(s), to ensure they don’t have to start over. The rules are set by National PTA and we cannot modify them.
Final artwork submissions are due November 2nd. Submit your work by October 19th to be included in an Early Bird prize drawing.
Stillwater PTSA will be hosting a workshop to help your young artist plan and create their original piece of art. It will be held on September 27th at 3:45 in Portable D at Stillwater.
