April Volunteer of the Month – Spring Dance Committee
April Volunteer of the Month
Spring Dance Committee – Carmen Love, Danielle Gilbreath, Felicia Berg & Karen Wright
The spring dance committee team was nominated by Lindsey Tolson and voted on by the PTSA Board of Directors. Here is what Lindsey had to say about the committee.
“I am nominating the ladies from the Spring Dance Committee. They did a fabulous job coordinating another fun social event at Stillwater.
Carmen and Danielle are the PTSA Social Leads this year and they have rocked it leading the charge for our 4 social events. These are huge events that require a lot of planning and hard work and they both do it with a smile. Carmen is also our membership chair and we couldn’t ask for a better person to be the face of our organization. She loves Stillwater and the PTSA and does a fantastic job sharing the mission of PTSA with our school. In addition to co-chairing social, Danielle is a frequent volunteer at Stillwater helping in the classrooms.
Felicia was a big help with the dance making all the signage and coordinating the photobooth. Felicia is our poster lead and such an integral part of the team. She is also a frequent classroom volunteer and always willing to jump in and help however possible. Karen who was also on the dance committee helped with the planning and volunteered all night. She is a consistent volunteer at all our events. Karen is also our special projects chair and oversees staff appreciation, spiritwear and popcorn.
Thank you ladies for all your hard work planning the Spring Dance. It was a really fun event that the students will remember forever! Your love for Stillwater is what helps make our school so great.”
We asked the committee what their favorite part of the spring dance was:
Carmen: “My favorite part of the dance is the excitement on the kids faces. They run around and have fun in their school and I believe that helps them enjoy being there during the school week. Seeing the wonderment in their faces as they walk in and see the decorations, the bake sale, the Sno-cones and this year we did a tattoo station.. it’s all awesome!”
Danielle: “I loved the snow cones and tattoos!”
Felicia: “My favorite part of the dance was the kids dancing. They were so excited to get out there and show their moves.”
Karen: “Watching all the kiddos have so much fun & their smiles.”
Carmen and her husband, Nick have 2 kids, Colson (9) and Athea (8). Carmen has been volunteering at Stillwater for 4 years and her favorite volunteer event is the Back to School Bash and washing the staff vehicles during Staff Appreciation Week. Carmen volunteers because, “I love being with the kids, lending a helping hand, making things easier for all of us, and because I can and others can’t, and I know that’s hard, cause I was a working parent who couldn’t and I had hoped and wished someone was helping where I couldn’t.” Carmen is an extrovert and loves meeting new people so she says if you see her at an event, come say hi!
Danielle and her husband, Rick have 3 kids, Hagan (9), Rhyen (7) and Emry (5). Danielle has been volunteering at Stillwater for a year and a half. Her favorite volunteer activity is art docent. “I agreed to be Art Docent lead for my daughter’s class with a bit of hesitation because I have virtually no artistic ability, the clay project caused me great concern and the idea of being a “teacher” well I knew I was out of my wheelhouse. But I found I really love being with the kids and seeing their eager face waiting to hear whatever I have to offer them. The kids and I have learned so much together and I’ve found it immensely rewarding! I also really love being Co-Social chair with Carmen Love and feel thankful that she thought I would make a good Robin to her Batman.” Danielle is new to Western Washington and is so happy her husbands work moved them to Duvall, they love it here!
Felicia and her husband, Jerry have 1 child, Xander (9). Felicia has volunteered at Stillwater for 4 years. “I want to see all of these awesome kiddos smiling. It’s why I volunteer and to see them learn with joy.” In her free time Felicia enjoys baking, she is an amazing baker! If you’ve attended a PTSA General Meeting, chances are you’ve tried her cinnamon rolls! Her favorite treat to bake is Cherry Chip cookies.
Karen and her husband, Wes have two kids, Katelyn (11) and Charley (9). Karen has been volunteering at Stillwater for 3 years. She didn’t have a favorite volunteer activity, she said “All the activities that PTSA provides bring different joy with volunteering.” Karen said she volunteers because “I love being a part of the school & getting to know families in our community.”
Thank you Carmen, Danielle, Felicia and Karen for all that you do to support Stillwater and our community!! Congrats on your nomination and win!
