A Letter from the President – Welcome Back
Welcome back to school Stillwater families, with a special welcome to our new families! As Mr. Madigan has indicated, the school’s theme for this year is “Doing Our Best in the Wild, Wild West.” Your PTSA has taken that theme and is planning many fun events including a bar-b-que, chili contest, hoe down, Book Fair BINGO night, and spring carnival. Other favorites will be coming back including Elf Workshop, Dads & Donuts, Talent Show, and Missoula Children’s Theatre. Moms and Muffins is being added this year with the help of dads. Stillwater has a lot of plans for programs to support students and staff, such as the Art Docent and Science Docent programs, Library volunteers, and Staff Appreciation Week. Keep watching our newsletters, e-flashes and website to learn about upcoming events and programs.
A Hospitality Room will be open during the first three days of school to welcome our new and returning families. Stop by the office conference room and say hello. We will be glad to answer questions, give you information about Stillwater or the PTSA, provide you with the volunteer packet required by Riverview School District, or even help you with paperwork.
Our first family fun event is our Back to School “Wild West” BBQ on September 13th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Dress up in your favorite western wear. This year our BBQ includes our first ever Chili Contest so, if you have a “to die for” chili recipe, cook up a batch and bring it! Members of the Stillwater staff will act as judges. Prizes will be given to three Chili Champions. We will also be having a raffle during the BBQ with fabulous baskets of fun donated by each classroom. The class that generates the most raffle tickets with its basket will win an ice cream party. You should have received details about the BBQ, Chili Contest, and Raffle in the mail, and those details are included in this newsletter. We look forward to seeing you on September 13th.
Our PTSA Board of Directors is very enthusiastic and ready to bring fantastic programs, events and opportunities to Stillwater children and families. Our board members are listed in this newsletter and you should feel free to contact any of us with questions, suggestions or offers of help.
I would like to extend a personal invitation to each parent, guardian, grandparent, aunt, uncle, friend, or any adult who supports a Stillwater student to join our PTSA. Being a PTSA member does not mean that you have to attend meetings, but you can if you want to. It does not mean that you have to volunteer, although there are many ways for adults to be involved at Stillwater, both at school and otherwise. It does not mean that you have to donate money or sell something, although PTSA does need financial support to operate and offer outstanding programs. What PTSA membership does mean is that you support the children in your life by being part of the oldest child advocacy organization in the nation. Being a PTSA member means that your voice and vote joins with hundreds, thousands and even millions of other voices and votes of people who care about children at the local, state and national levels. Being a Stillwater PTSA member means that you help enhance YOUR child’s educational experience. PLEASE BECOME A PTSA MEMBER TODAY!
Sincerely,
Pam Deming
President
