December Featured Volunteer of the Month: Jessica Coon

Congratulations to our December PTSA Featured Volunteer of the Month, Jessica Coon. Jessica was nominated by Missy Harvold and voted on by the Executive Board.

Here are a few things that Missy had to say about Jessica:

“Jessica Coon is a rock star and deserves to be the PTSA Volunteer of the Month. In November, she ran our Scholastic Book Fair. She did this while being wonder-mom and getting her family ready for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Jessica donated prizes to our raffle pool, brought in snacks, worked a lot of hours (she was there almost every shift!), and she did so without complaint. Without her thoughtfulness, welcoming personality, knack at getting and training volunteers, and ability to quickly adapt to any situation, our book fair would not have been as successful as it was… and it was a GREAT book fair year. I can honestly say that we would not have made our sales goal without the work that Jessica put forth. She is kind, considerate, calm and highly competent… not to mention really fun to be around. I would gladly work with Jessica on any project in the future. Jessica originally agreed to help with book fair as a team of lead-volunteers, but for various reasons, ended up doing the whole thing. Jessica is amazing to watch work and she did a very good job. You would never have known it was her first year of doing a book fair!”

Jessica and her husband moved to Duvall in 2004. They have 2 boys; Alex is 12 and just started Tolt MS and Zach is 9 and in 3rd Grade at Stillwater. She has volunteered at Stillwater for the past 6 1/2 years and now also volunteers at Tolt’s Student Store. She has been on the PTSA board and is currently in the role as Co-Membership. Besides volunteering, Jessica is also a substitute Educational Assistant for the Riverview School District. She says that she “loves working with kids and feel fortunate to be a part of a wonderful community and school district”.

Jessica’s favorite single event to volunteer for is the Walkathon. She says that “the kids get so excited and competitive and so do the staff!” She also enjoys being a classroom Art Docent. She feels that there is no better way to get to know the children than through volunteering in the schools.

When Jessica is not volunteering or working she enjoys running. She says that she “loves the camaraderie of running with a group of friends or participating in a relay race. I also love to cook, read, and make cards when I have time.”

Since she is our December volunteer of the month, I had to ask about some of her favorite holiday traditions. Jessica loves everything about the Christmas holiday season. Her two favorite holiday traditions are finding Oliver, their Elf on the Shelf, and seeing what mischief he can get into and also decorating their Christmas tree. She has collected many special ornaments over the years and “enjoys unwrapping each one and reflecting on when or whom I received them from.”

Thank you Jessica, for all the things you have done for Stillwater and the PTSA. We hope you found some of your favorite treats in your stocking this holiday season; Rittersport milk chocolate, coconut bar and cheese popcorn! When you see Jessica at the school, make sure to congratulate her and thank her for all she does for Stillwater Elementary.
