January SUPER Volunteer of the Month: Erin Allen
Erin was nominated by Karie Cato, Sharon Nelson and Missy Harvold and voted on by the PTSA Board of Directors. Here is what Karie, Sharon, and Missy had to say about Erin.
Karie: “Erin has been and continues to be such a gift and unsung hero for Stillwater. She has volunteered in our work room for the last 4 years making copies, laminating, doing inventory, among many other things. She comes in twice a week and has been such a valuable part of how we run as a school and especially for our teachers. She lifts the burden of preparing copies and projects for our teachers who already have plates that are overflowing. She is extremely efficient and knows our equipment better than we do which has allowed us to save time and money. She has even taken projects home to cut or put together and we are just so so grateful for her service to Stillwater. She is very deserving of this award and honestly, she is deserving of a parade and a special day for her. 🙂 Thank you Erin for loving Stillwater, our staff, and students – you make this a great place to work!”
Sharon: “I can’t say enough good things about Erin. She comes to Stillwater Elementary workroom every Tuesday and Thursday to do any coping the teachers have requested and laminates items they put in the box. If she can’t come on her scheduled day, she will come on another day. She is so friendly and flexible. Erin will do anything for you. The teachers love her as do we in the office. She is so reliable and we are so grateful to have her as a volunteer.”
Missy: “Erin Allen is efficient, precise, and cheerful. These qualities make her such an important volunteer at Stillwater. Erin, if you didn’t know, comes in and does copying/lamination in the staff workroom two days a week. She also does little things around the building that help our school, like donating books to the library, that just make me want to get her some praise! Erin is definitely an awesome volunteer.”
Erin and her husband, Dave have been married for 39 years and have 2 sons, Chris (38), Paul (36) and a granddaughter Emily (13). She has been volunteering for Stillwater for the last 4 years but actually volunteered back when the school opened and worked for the school for 5 years. Now she runs the copy room which is such a big help for our teachers!! Her favorite volunteer job has been an assistant drill team coach at Cedarcrest, she loved watching the girls grow into beautiful, confident women.
When asked why she volunteers, Erin said that “since my husband and I are both retired, volunteering gets me out of the house and around a lot of wonderful people.” In her free time, Erin enjoys being outside: hiking, agate hunting, bike riding and going on walks. Her favorite holiday is Halloween, her and her kids started a path of horror in their front yard back in 1994 and it has grown since then. “I love nothing more than lots of trick or treats on Halloween,” so make sure you stop by her house next Halloween! Erin is an animal lover with 2 golden retrievers and chinchillas. Fun fact, she had a litter of golden retriever puppies about 12 years ago where some of the puppies ended up in the Snow Buddies movie.
Thank you Erin for all that you do to support Stillwater and our community!! Congrats on your nomination and win!
