PTSA Board Openings 2015-2016

ptsa2Do you want to be involved in advocating for Stillwater’s needs? Do you want to learn more about state education and funding policies, and help inform and activate your school community to support positive change? Then the PTSA is looking for you! The PTSA Board is looking to fill one more chair position crucial to the fulfillment of our mission statement, the local unit Advocacy/Legislative Chair.

There is no legislative experience required, just a desire to get involved and help organize and advocate for our kids. This is a great position for busy parents who can’t be at school but still want to make a difference.

The local unit Advocacy/Legislative chairs do not have to do it alone. Each region has a region director and a region legislative chair. The Washington State PTSA has staff support and staff-generated communications that keep members informed. Stillwater also has a past Advocacy/Legislative chair that has generously offered to be a mentor for the position.

Primary responsibilities: The local unit Advocacy/Legislative Chair represents members at WSPTA’s Annual Legislative Assembly, where WSPTA offers training and the statewide legislative platform is decided. He or she works to inform members about issues; helps their local unit PTSA members determine the statewide platform; empowers members to discuss local advocacy issues and helps members speak up when it matters most.

  • Attend your monthly PTSA meetings (or provide a write-up if you cannot attend the meetings) to help the PTSA board and members stay current on the local and state issues that impact them
  • Attend PTA Focus Day in Olympia and lobby for education bills in Olympia
  • Attend the WA State Legislative Assembly meeting in October
